    Computer screen kept going black

    Trish Satkofsky

Curser would disappear, then screen went black.  Happened multiple times, considered virus or malware, did scans, nothing.  Did defrag, disk check.  Screen black 3x doing disk check.  Cancelled it, now PC won't boot up.  Screen tries to open but wants to do two choices (sorry can't remember then), & goes round & round between choices.  Clk F2 or F12 and can't get PC to boot.  Now in hands of repair who recommends new computer.  Can I recover anything from internal HD?  How?  Thanx for any ideas/suggestions, Trish

          Hello Trish,

          Thank you for contacting us!

It may be possible to recover the HDD, depending on the situation. I would recommend contacting a recovery specialist to assist you with this. I know Geek Squad has Data Recovery in their list of services. You may also try simply going to a Best Buy, Fry's, or Office Max, to see if they can help.

Please let me know if this helps, or if you have any other questions. Have a great day!

          Best Regards,

Of course it helps.  All replies & suggestions help and thanks for them.  Right now PC in in hands of friend who is good with computers.  I know very little my self, but wonder why he feels he can 'repair' it, but not be able to recover any thing from it.  I read some after I'd asked my question and found solutions that may or may not work, but seem worth trying.  One was Kaspersky Rescue Disk, but I didn't understand how to download it if pc wouldn't boot.  Also, F8 sounded possible.  We'll just have to see.  Trish
